JULIE WARD, née Stephenson, was born in Sale. Family holidays were mostly spent in Seaspray on the 90 Mile Beach. Julie’s love of the ocean is paramount in her interpretation of the sea. Bold, strident colours, often with palette knife texture, form the greater part of her large canvases. She paints landscapes as well as seascapes, enjoys the freedom of abstracts and the discipline of portraiture. Julie is delighted to have some of her works displayed in this exhibition at Easter in Golden Beach.
Julie was legally blind at 15 years of age, a daunting ‘ courage-building’ experience that was alleviated by donated corneas for her grafts. It’s no wonder her work is large and bright, a reflection of her life-changing experience.
In the last twenty-five years Julie’s spare time has been absorbed by her love of oil painting. In her Artsea Gallery/Studio at Seaspray she delights in portraying the much loved beach and ocean. Every Easter she curates the Seaspray Easter Art Show (S.E.A.S.) in the local hall. Originally a duo exhibition with Sue Cox (Dec) , Julie, with her sister Marg O'Brien , now invites other local artists to to join them, creating a popular exhibition enjoyed by all in the community.
Julie’s work is also available at the Julie Ward School of Music 109 Foster St Sale.
